SOME MORE MUSIC?

Judging by the number of comments, my last post about the opera singer Lucia Popp was quite (reasonably) popular.

What astonished me most was the fact that people from far away and from very different cultural background appreciate Mozart's music and the singer, too.
Unfortunately, I am sorry to admit that this is only partially true the other way round. So I don't fall for Chinese Opera but like their instrumental music.

This YouTube video features a composition from Carl Maria von Weber. The clarinet is played by Sabine Meyer. Please lend them both your ears for three or four minutes. It's really gorgeous, there are not many pieces of music like this.

When clicking you are being jumped to YouTube and that is ok because it gives you the possibility to read the comments.

Depending on the piece of music, some of these are truly ferocious. The pleasure to destroy, humiliate, downgrade. Music should not be the means to let off steam.

  4. Hi Georg,

I must admit that I am no connoisseur of classical music, Indian or Western. I love simple melody and any music that appeals instantaneously rather than after paying attention to the very fine and subtle elements that any great classical music contains. Sometimes it can be tedious, except for those who have virtually grown up understanding such nuances.

Notwithstanding what I have said, I must also add that I instantly like this piece of music. Sabina is fabulous on the clarinet.

  5. oh wonderful piece Georg
so nice that you selected Carl Maria von Weber... i haven't played piano for many years now, but from age 8 to age 20 (? or around then) i studied classical piano :D my very first piece on a recital was the theme of Oberon by Carl Maria von Weber!! i think my professor back then selected that piece for me because of the last name... and now every time i hear something by this talented musician, i remember Oberon and my very first piece played in public... of course it wasn't a 10th of the beauty you showcased here

danke for the old memoirs and the new ones while listening to your selection here... sehr schön! Sie sind toll herr Georg :D

  6. For Berenice,

Glad to hear that you like this kind of music. So you have been a piano player till twenty. I did not imagine this as you seemed so enthusiastic to listen to the vastly different desert music.

And now, do you still play a bit???

As to CMvW, who knows, may be you are both linked family-wise.

    Georg
